This legislation will: - Cut interest rates on new, subsidized Stafford loans from 6.8% to 3.4% - Increase Pell Grants immediately to $5100, with further increases of $300/year - Allow borrowers to cap monthly loan payments at 15% of their discretionary income, with a loan forgiveness option for those in public service careers - Expand the college tuition tax deduction The bill also includes the STAR Act, legislation that will encourage schools to use more efficient student loan programs. This will generate $13 billion in additional need-based aid � at no cost to taxpayers.
